AROUND THE WORLD

In this Wall Street Journal article, SoFi, which specializes in US student loan refinancing, announced a funding round starting with the intention of raising $500 million. They are one of the best performing US p2p lending platforms and intend to use the funds to expand their student loan business to Europe and grow their other lines of business.

The investing for expatriates/foreign residents site IExpats reports that one of the UK’s largest p2p lenders, Zopa, cut the interest rates it pays to its investors. After the Bank of England cut its rates 25 basis points (0.25%), Zopa cut its rate by 20 basis points across the board. This is to keep peer lending rates in England competitive with other loan options. The rates started on September 1.

This article in Crowdfund Insider mentions Finland and its new crowdfunding act. The act should make it easier for crowdfunding platforms to set up and operate in Finland, both equity funding and debt (p2p lending).
